Ibanez SC420 S Classic 1996 Black Cherry (VIDEO DEMO)

Around the mid to late 90s, Ibanez decided to make some guitars that were going to rival the PRS line up. During this time, PRS started to gain some major success, so it was only natural for them to go after their popular design. It has a mahogany body with a maple bolt-on neck and a rosewood fretboard, 22 frets, dot inlays, a hard tail bridge, two humbuckers (Ibanez V1 in the neck and a V2 in the bridge, one volume, one tone, a five way switch, and a 25.1 inch scale. 

The headstock is also PRS esque' with a tilt-back 3 on a side tuner design, with a 12″ radius, the neck only gets 1/8th" thicker between the 1st and 12th frets, and the medium profile is smoothly rounded, feeling like a slimmed-down Tele neck rather than a skinny shred machine. The heel features Ibanez’s All-Access Neck Joint (AANJ), for great access to the top end.

This can definitely be a hard rock guitar, make no qualms about it, if your looking for a guitar with some hard rock bite to it, but she also cleans up quite nicely and sounds great playing smooth mellow jazz as well, if your looking for a nice guitar with a wide range of versatility then you've found the guitar your looking for! This a early model with a 1996 serial number, while officially the Ibanez S-Classic 420 was available beginning in 1997 so it's quite likely this was built in 96' to be prepared for it's launch in 97'. There are a few variations of the Ibanez S-Classic including the SCA220, SC620, SCA1620, and this version we have here for sale today the SC420. 

The SC420 has a thin, lightweight mahogany body, and features an inventive method of mounting the controls to avoid losing too much body wood to cutouts. The pickup switch and pots are all front-loaded, with the control knobs sitting in recessed dishes, and a small circular backplate behind them for all the wiring. The jack socket is built into the face of the guitar as with normal S guitars. It was available in two colors, black and ‘black cherry’, with unpainted faux binding around the edge of the body, the pickups mounts are chrome, as is all other hardware. The neck features small dot position markers from the 3rd fret onwards, and the headstock face is painted black, with a rosewood truss rod cover.
