Mesa Boogie Gold Mine California High Gain Drive Overview
You already know MESA® Pedals are built by the very same artisans that create the Award Winning Mark Five™, the legendary Dual and Triple Rectifier® and the soulful new vintage-voiced offerings, Fillmore and California Tweed. Now here are three exciting new hand-built overdrive pedals spanning the entire range of gain and stylistic spectrum.
Gold Mine™ tops the gain spectrum with soaring, smooth high gain that tips the hat to Boogie, but also includes a harmonic edge that’s borderline Brit in character. Not that you can’t dial gain back for sweet, subtle overdrive, you can, but the true character emerges as gain goes up and heavier saturation begins. Up there, a violin-like quality infuses single notes with saturation that blends attack and sustain with near perfection in pedal form, while keeping the emotion in your playing at the forefront of the mix.
JACKS IN
This ¼” phono jack is the Instrument Input for the device. Connect the output of your guitar to this jack on the right side of the of the pedal with a shielded cable of good quality. The jack is a switching type jack and the circuit is turned on when a cable is inserted. When the circuit is activated by inserting a cable, the internal battery is being used to power it – so be sure to unplug the cable from the INPUT when it’s not in use.
OUT
This 1/4” phono jack is the OUTPUT for the device. Connect the OUTPUT to the Input of your amplifier – or the INPUT of the next device in line in your pedal board.
CONTROLS
LEVEL This is the master output level and it controls the amount of signal provided to the host amplifier.
GAIN: This control determines the amount of gain (overdrive) in the signal path.
BASS This control works in tandem with the
TREBLE control to adjust low frequencies.
MID This control increases or decreases the amount of midrange frequencies.
TREBLE This control adjusts the amount of high frequencies present in the mix and – unlike devices with just a TONE control - allows you to fine tune the high frequencies separately from the low frequencies.
DIP SWITCH
The GOLD MINE™ incorporates a selectable EQ Voicing Switch located in the lower right edge of the bottom circuit board inside the unit under the Bottom Plate. Removing the Bottom permits access to this switch offering you a choice of two EQ curves. Select between a more controlled, tighter low-end response with increased upper-midrange cut and punch in TIGHT, (as Shipped) or loosen things up with increased low end bloom and a more scooped midrange response that also showcases the highest frequencies and achieve increased dimensionality in BLOOM.
