- NO HOLES DRILLED IN THE SHELL: there is a suspension hoop down the shell that keeps all hardware "free floating"; we call it the Meinl Floatune System, and it lets the shell resonate with a big open tone
- WHY IT MATTERS: the drum has more body and tonal range when the shell resonates freely; this helps you fill spaces live and gives you a wide-open sound to dial-in however you want
- HOW IT WORKS: there is a shallow lip in the shell where the bottom suspension hoop nests into; the top hoop (around the head) is what the tension rods affect when you tighten and loosen them to adjust pitch (comes with tuning wrench)
- CATCH UP QUICK: the hefty shells are made of 100% American white ash staves with uniform color and grain for classic warm djembe tone; the finish is NOT a glued-on veneer made to look like real wood
- DRIVING THE SOUND: you can get a lot of different sounds from its traditional goat skin rawhide head; this head produces a classic warm, yet clear tone while being remarkably durable
- BY THE NUMBERS: shell measures 12" wide x 24 1/4" tall and weighs about 15.9 lbs; goat skin head measures 12" with a 10" playing area (head is slightly larger than the playing area because it wraps around and down the rim)
- THE BOTTOM LINE: the Floatune Djembe fills a wider sonic space with big resonance since there are no lugs drilled in the shell; plus, it's easy to tune
- THE BIG PICTURE: Meinl is a family-owned musical instrument manufacturer and brand established 1951 in Germany; our expert German designers have deep relationships with our builders to ensure you're delivered the absolute finest quality
