This is a true 'one off' instrument and has quite a history so here goes...... Named ‘Bodega’ (or ‘Hole in the Head’). It has two Alembic AXY4 pickups and 20th Anniversary circuitry fitted and sounds incredible with that unique Alembic tone. Left handed strung right handed (as it was originally when it lived at the Alembic factory).
The body and neck had sat unfinished in the Alembic factory since the 70's with the original builder (who is believed to be Ron Armstrong).
Originally a standard point but the builder knocked it in a doorway at the Factory and after trying to reshape the point it became too short, so he decided to cut an Omega out of it.
I bought this bass in 2017 with just one single AXY pickup connected to a StratoBlaster and fed directly to the output jack. I have since then had another Alembic AXY4 pickup and 20th Anniversary electronics added to the bass and it sounds absolutely incredible!! The previous owner acquired the bass 2012-2013 and had it 'rehabbed to playable' at Alembic where he had the first AXY pickup fitted. All parts made by Alembic most of which were installed at the factory with the exception of the second pickup and 20th Anniversary electronics. It was originally cut for Series 1 active circuitry and still has the hum-cancelling groove in the middle of the body.
This bass was at the Alembic factory for over 35 years until 2012 when the previous owner purchased it from the company.
34”Scale length.
Beautiful Birdseye Maple top/Lacewood back.
Frets in great shape (Only played for 5 of the 40+ years). There is some dramatic finish checking but most is stable, with an area of finish flaked off in a patch at the bottom. The original builder stabilized certain spots with a bit of CA Glue a few years ago.
Named “Bodega” and “Hole in the head” by Mica Wickersham.
Derived from the unique hole cut into the headstock of the bass (original).
Comes with a heavily used case that is still functional other but the right latch is broken.
The case was gifted by Alembic to protect the instrument when previous owner went to the factory to pick it up.
I have a lot more info on the bass so please contact me if you'd like to know more.
