Collings 002 Cedar 2006

Offered here is a relatively unique guitar, a Collings 002 with a lovely custom cedar top. The Collings 002 is based upon a guitar design which originated in the mid to late 1800's. It is a small body, short scale, 12-fret instrument with a neck width and string spacing which will appeal primarily to fingerstyle players, although it responds well to flatpicking. It has a body length of 19-3/8", a lower bout width of 14-1/4" and a body depth of 4". It has a scale length of 24-7/8" and a nut width of 1-13/16". This lovely 2006 model has a cedar top which is no longer available from Collings. The back and sides are East Indian rosewood. See the pictured spec sheet for more details. The 002 produces a sound which is balanced and succinct, although the Cedar on this example gives it a voice which is a touch warmer and a bit fuller sounding to my ear than the standard spruce/rosewood combination. The cedar top gives the guitar a lovely aroma and the slightly darker color gives it a weathered appearance that is a pleasant change from spruce. With it's short scale and 12-fret geometry, it plays with superb ease. This 2006 guitar is in excellent condition with no dings or scratches of any significance, just a bit of clearcoat scuffing which you can only see close up and under intense, indirect lighting. The frets are in marvelous condition as well. It comes with it's original Collings/TKL case in similarly well preserved condition. The Collings 002 is an especially desirable small body guitar and the custom cedar top on this one makes it even more so! Make it yours!
