Perhaps one of the nicest vintage acoustics we've ever had here at The Rock Inn!
A beautiful 1954 Martin D-28 from one of the most celebrated periods in Martin's history.
An exceptional opportunity to own a genuine vintage Martin D-28, featuring Brazilian rosewood back and sides, a spruce top and all the character, warmth and resonance you'd hope for from a guitar of this era.
1954 falls within an important transitional period for Martin, as the company moved from using Adirondack (Red) Spruce to Sitka Spruce for its guitar tops. Given the notably wide grain of this particular guitar's top, we believe it is quite possibly Adirondack Spruce. If so, it would make this an especially interesting example from this transitional period.
This is a two-owner instrument, previously purchased from Gruhn Guitars in Nashville and presents as a lovely, well-preserved example of a 1950s D-28.
The guitar retains plenty of its original character, with some surface finish touch-ups having been carried out over the years. Importantly, the instrument has not been oversprayed, retaining its original finish and beautiful vintage patina.
