Mo Says...
Ten watts, one EL34 valve and a thoroughly British disposition. This little Blackstar has a pleasing way of turning polite clean tones into something rather less respectable. Proof that volume and character are not necessarily the same thing.

The Details
The Blackstar Studio 10 EL34 is a compact, single-ended valve combo designed to capture the character of classic British amplification in a practical 10-watt format. Built around an EL34 power valve and ECC83 preamp valve, it offers the warmth, natural compression and touch sensitivity associated with traditional valve amplifiers, without requiring the considerable volume of a large stage rig. A 12-inch Celestion Seventy 80 speaker gives the amplifier a satisfying fullness, making it equally appealing for home playing, studio work and smaller performances.
The Studio 10 EL34 is particularly well suited to players who appreciate straightforward controls and responsive overdrive. At lower gain settings, it produces warm, articulate clean tones that respond naturally to picking dynamics. Increasing the gain introduces the characteristic midrange bite and musical breakup of an EL34-powered amplifier, while the footswitchable boost provides additional drive and sustain for more assertive rhythm playing and singing lead lines. The dedicated reverb control adds space and depth, while the master volume helps manage overall listening levels.
Despite its deliberately simple layout, the Studio 10 offers useful modern features. A series effects loop allows modulation, delay and other effects to be placed after the preamp, while the speaker-emulated output makes it possible to record directly or practise through headphones. External speaker outputs provide further flexibility. Finished in traditional black covering with cream piping, a dark grille cloth and a sturdy carrying handle, it combines understated vintage-inspired styling with a practical set of features.
