I have a 2023 Gibson Les Paul Modern here with its original hard shell case and factory paperwork.
This guitar is stock with the exception of a visual makeover to the plastics. It has clear speed knobs, a white pearloid pickguard, truss rod cover, and poker chip. A matching light colored set of pickup rings was added. These parts are attractive and clean. I do not have the original parts.
Conditionally, this guitar looks nice.
The body top shows just a tiny little bit of surface playwear around the selector switch that is about the same intensity as guitar pick strumming. I did not find any buildup of any other surface swirling or guitar pick strumming, or any playwear or singular marks on the body top. The hardware and the nitro finish look nice and lustrous.
The body sides/edges look very nice as well. I did not find any indentations or bumps or chips. Any superficial swirling will be minimal. There will be faint scattered traces, but no accumulation or buildup.
The body back shows a scattering of superficial swirling type signs of use. Again, about the same intensity as guitar pick strumming. So I didn't find any buckle rash or worming, nor any heavy clustering or accumulation of any soft swirling, just sort of general scattered traces of superficial playwear here and there. Overall, the surface finish looks clean and glossy. I did not find any chips or dings or any noteworthy playwear.
The neck heel contour looks and feels excellent, with nothing to report there. The headstock looks great. I did not find any chips or bumps or dings. The frets are tall and full, showing no pitting or divots. And the setup is nicely dialed in and plays great. It has that typical nice modern, easy to play feel to it. The original electronics are working as they should.
Lastly, and most likely temporarily, I smell just a little bit of pet musk smell on the outer hard shell case. The guitar itself doesn't smell. Not the interior. The interior of the case just has that faint caramel smell that these hard cases are imbued with. I have washed the outside of the case, and I'm letting it air out here. So generally, when you have a little bit of dog or cat smell, once it is out of that environment, which it now is, it fades. So it may not even be noticeable by the time this ships.
So, conditionally, I am going to rate this one an 8.8/10 and grade it as very good. I found just a scattering of light surface signs of playwear on this guitar, with nothing heavy. Nothing notable. I didn't find any dings or bumps or chips. Cosmetically, the guitar is quite attractive. So consider it on the higher side of very good at the threshold of excellent, as this is a newer era guitar that has that clean, crisp look to it. It is structurally and sonically sound and plays fantastic.
The LP modern is a further evolution of the LP Standard. Gibson opted to branch off and create their vintage 50s and 60s style standards. And the modern has as it's namesake more modern innovations. This includes superior locking tuners. A really nice cutaway on the neck heel that allows for greater access to the upper frets. 4 push pull pots that give you a variety of tonal options and combinations. It has modern weight relief.
And perhaps most importantly it has a real ebony fretboard. Usually we only see that on a Les Paul Custom.
The guitar to my ears sounds Explosive and "fast" both the lighter weight design and the Ebony board contribute to this. It does not have any sag to the tone. It is remarkably response and has a sort of immediacy to it's tone. It is so noticeable that you will adjust your playing and touch sensitivity compared to other guitars.
It still has the big bold Les Paul tone. Brighter and tighter with ebony but still warm, still sweet sounding. I would also suggest that players that play with a lot of high gain and distortion are really gonna like this model. It's tonal traits really gel well with high gain.
So this is a great Les Paul and also a high end affordable (by Gibson standards!) alternative to a Les Paul Custom.
Note that this listing may come down at anytime as I am a multi-platform seller and do sell locally and on my own Site as well in an effort to keep sales fluid. State sales tax will be charged On Reverb sales when applicable, so factor that in to your purchase.
I will immaculately pack it as well. I use quality shipping boxes, ample tape on all sides. And sufficient bubble wrap filler and bracing inside the box. And always Marked/denoted as fragile. I generally detune guitars 1/2 half step prior to shipment as well if needed.
Thank you for reading and considering!
