Guild built the D-50 to go head-to-head with Martin's D-28, and this one shows exactly why. The back and sides are solid rosewood, built with a flat back and bracing rather than the arched plywood construction common on many other Guild dreadnoughts of the era, and the grain on the solid spruce top is exceptional.
Tonally it's wonderful, loud and sweet with a perfectly balanced midrange. Fifty years of ageing on that spruce top has clearly done its work, the note definition is excellent and it truly sings on every note and chord. Given a full professional setup, it plays great with a good medium action.
In good condition for a vintage piece of this age. This guitar has likely had a refret, with zero fret wear and plenty of height left in the frets after a recent fret dress, and has definitely had some bridge work done. Two circles on the back of the body, possibly from clamping at some point, suggest a neck reset may have taken place, if so, it's been done extremely well. The truss rod cover is non-original, and there are some minor nicks, dings and scratches on the top. This guitar has had a life, but it's still playing beautifully and sounds great.
