Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass – Surf Pearl – Pau Ferro – Noiseless Pickups

A seriously good-looking and hugely versatile Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass, finished in the fantastic Surf Pearl with a Pau Ferro fingerboard and contrasting black pickguard.

The Deluxe Active Jazz Bass takes the familiar feel and character of a traditional Jazz Bass and adds a much broader electronics package, making it a brilliant choice for anyone who wants classic passive Fender tones alongside considerably more control when required.

The alder body is paired with a maple neck and Pau Ferro fingerboard, with a comfortable “C” profile, 12” radius and 20 medium jumbo frets. With the traditional 34” scale and narrow 1.5” Jazz Bass nut width, it has the fast, familiar feel that makes these so easy to get around.

A pair of Dual-Coil Ceramic Noiseless Jazz Bass pickups provide the sound, retaining the clarity, definition and bite you want from a Jazz Bass while keeping unwanted noise to a minimum.

The real strength of this model is the electronics. Alongside master volume and a pickup blend control, you get a full three-band active EQ with bass, midrange and treble boost/cut, plus an active/passive mini toggle.

That means you can run it as a straightforward passive Jazz Bass when you want simplicity, then switch the active circuit in when you need considerably more control over your sound.

Fender also fitted these with a substantial HiMass bridge, helping with sustain and note definition and rounding off what is an extremely capable bass for both stage and studio use.

And the Surf Pearl finish is superb. It has a subtle metallic quality that changes beautifully under different lighting and looks particularly good against the black guard and chrome hardware.

Condition

Excellent overall.

There are some play scratches to the black pickguard, along with a few light surface scratches and marks to the rear of the body.

As with any glossy dark pickguard, the marks become considerably more visible when photographed under strong direct lighting, and the close-up photographs have deliberately been taken this way so they can be seen clearly. In normal viewing conditions they are much less prominent.

There are also the expected very light signs of handling and use elsewhere, but nothing we would consider significant.

There are no structural issues to report. The neck is sound, the bass plays extremely well, and the pickups, active electronics, passive mode and controls are all working exactly as they should.

Overall, a very clean example that has clearly been well looked after.
