This used Schilke 13A4A trumpet mouthpiece comes from the store's "test mouthpiece" stock, cleaned after each use and stored in a protective case.
The Schilke 13A4a is one of the most popular lead trumpet mouthpieces in the world, originally developed as an artist model for lead player Mike Vax (formerly of the Stan Kenton Band).
- Best For: Lead trumpet, commercial playing, Latin/big band styles, and high-register work.
- Not Ideal For: Classical, orchestral, or dark symphonic playing, as the shallow cup and tight backbore limit warmth and can sound thin or bright in a lower/middle register.
- Cup Diameter: 16.76 mm (0.660 inches) — designated by the number 13
- Cup Volume / Depth: Shallow "A" cup — designed to brighten the sound and assist with the extreme upper register
- Rim Contour: Semi-flat #4 rim — provides a distinct "bite" or grip for endurance and accuracy
- Backbore: Tight "a" backbore — increases resistance slightly to boost brilliance and control in the upper register
- Throat Size: Standard #27 throat
- Finish: Silver-plated standard build
