Yamaha YCL-650 Wood Clarinet

Yamaha is very respected in the band and orchestra instruments world, making this one of the better choices someone could make for a professional clarinet. This would even make a good clarinet for an adult looking for a new instrument to learn! It has a great wooden construction and design and was made in Japan.  Made of carefully select and seasoned Grenadilla wood and boasting an enormous amount of handcrafting and hand finishing, the 650 features tapered toneholes which are undercut by hand for precise intonation and superior tonal balance. It also features beautifully sculpted keys whose touch has been regulated by master artisans for perfect balance. The clarinet is in very good shape with the exception of some minor scratches. The original case, bag and 4C mouthpiece are included.

For clarinetists who demand serious performance, refined craftsmanship, and the unmistakable character of fine grenadilla wood, the Yamaha YCL-650 delivers professional-level quality backed by one of the most respected names in musical instrument manufacturing. Designed as a professional Bb clarinet, the YCL-650 features a grenadilla wood body, silver-plated keywork, and carefully engineered tone holes that contribute to its responsive feel, tonal consistency, and expressive versatility. Whether you're performing demanding orchestral repertoire, playing chamber music, teaching at the university level, or preparing for important auditions, this is a clarinet built to meet the expectations of serious musicians.

Yamaha's reputation is reflected in the distinguished musicians who perform on its clarinets. Yamaha Performing Artist Shawn Goodman is a clarinet educator and performer who plays Yamaha clarinets exclusively. Danny Mui, 2nd/Bass Clarinetist with the New York City Ballet Orchestra at Lincoln Center and a former principal clarinetist of the Baton Rouge Symphony, is another prominent artist who also represents Yamaha's connection with accomplished performers and educators. These musicians and their illustrious careers illustrate the level of professional musicianship associated with the Yamaha clarinet family.

The YCL-650 draws on design principles found in Yamaha's higher-end Custom clarinets, offering a compelling combination of refined playability and professional-level construction. Its grenadilla body provides the traditional wooden clarinet character players appreciate, while its thoughtfully designed keywork supports the control and responsiveness needed for nuanced musical expression. For advancing players, educators, and experienced clarinetists seeking a well-crafted professional instrument, the Yamaha YCL-650 offers an appealing blend of quality, reliability, and musical potential. The YCL-650 is a serious instrument for serious musicians.
