2020 MIM Fender Precision (P/J) Bass Buttercream - BIG QUALITY TONE MODS
I took the ‘Y’ out of DIY… just ‘do it.’ This 'P/J' bass will ship with a G&G Brown tolex case in excellent condition. This is the case that came with early '60s models Fender Reissue basses.
If you’ve considered a DIY project using a similar base-model, mods, and custom parts, but are hesitant due to some of the complexities, then you already know this is a bargain. My asking price does not include the initial investment of the Pbass itself. I’m not looking to profit, in fact I'll take a quite a hit (builders know). I'm simply passing on this beauty to someone who appreciates that the true value of this P/J bass lies in the component synergy. The high quality parts at both ends of the strings more directly and effectively transmit the vibe into the body.
- The Schallers hold in tune with greater stability than OEM.
- The high-mass bridge stabilizes both intonation and fundamental tracking (filters out mechanical chaos).
- The string-thru mod provides greater overall string length and sharper attack, clearer note definition, and enhanced low-end resonance.
Those upgrades allow the premium pickups to translate a cleaner, more resonant signal. Rather than isolated modifications, these parts work in tandem to provide a harmonic richness and player feedback that a factory-line model simply cannot replicate.
To help you justify making the purchase, here’s a list of work I’ve done followed by the cost of new parts and/or labor to install. FWIW, my independent small-shop labor charges are conservatively estimated, based on the real-world standard rates charged when I left the 'big box' guitar-tech world ($60/hr in 2015), and less than most contemporary shops' fees you'll find today:
