The Dynaudio LYD 8 is the largest two-way model in the LYD range, a bi-amped nearfield monitor with an 8-inch MSP woofer and a 1.1-inch soft dome tweeter. Class-D amplifiers deliver 80 W for the woofer and 50 W for the tweeter, for up to 112 dB per pair at 1 meter, and the speaker still works on the desk at 1 to 2 meters from the listening position. Tuning for Your Room

Three DSP switches on the back adapt the LYD 8 to where it sits. Bass Extension moves the low cutoff 10 Hz lower or higher: the lowest setting gives the deepest bass for mixing at moderate levels, and the highest gives the most output. Sound Balance tilts the whole response by 1.5 dB at each end toward a brighter or darker sound, and the Position switch adds a correction filter for speakers placed within 50 cm of a wall. A three-position sensitivity switch matches the speaker to consumer or professional output levels.

Drivers and Amplification

The 8-inch woofer has a cone made of MSP (magnesium silicate polymer), and Dynaudio builds both drivers by hand. The soft dome tweeter takes over at 3.9 kHz, and each driver has its own Class-D amplifier. The cabinet is a rear-ported bass reflex design, and an auto-standby mode shuts the amplifier section down when no audio is present and wakes it when signal returns.
