Yamaha SB-2A '67 "flying samurai" shortscale bass in pearl white.

Setting themselves far apart from Fender, Yamaha issued a new line of basses in the mid-to-late '60s, including the medium-scale SB-2A—they were only sold until 1971, It's a rare bird, 20 frets (with a zero fret, too), a killer single coil pickup, and volume/tone controls. Weighs approximately 8.5lbs, fun to play and sounds great.

This bass is in great performance shape with lots of scratches and dings, as well as a Woodstock homage in what appears to be black magic marker. I received it this way straight from Japan. The frets are in good shape, the nut is great, truss rod turns, the fretboard is lustrous, the neck is smooth (there's a small bare spot on the back but it's cosmetic, not a speed bump). All original, including the case, which is clean but musty--judging from the grime and strong condition when I received it, the bass was in its case for many years left untouched. The bass is set up with low action and is ready to rock.

Of note, this is the only bass I've ever played (and I've played way too many) that is truly ergonomic—when it's strapped over your shoulder there is no neck dive at all, it's perfectly balanced, lightweight, and super comfortable to play.

It sounds awesome... the pup is not super-hot, but it sounds bold, punchy, warm and juicy. The neck is comfy and fast, the tolerances are incredibly tight—these 60s Yamahas are much better made than Fenders of the same era, the neck pocket is immaculate.

Will be packed to arrive exactly as described.
