The Line 6 POD xt Live took the tone engine behind the studio-favorite POD xt and put it on the floor where players could stomp on it. Line 6 started the modeling revolution with the original kidney-bean POD in 1998, followed with POD 2.0 in 2000 and the POD xt in 2002, then unveiled the PODxt Live in September 2004 as its first professional-grade multi-effects floor processor. It added a steel chassis, heavy-duty footswitches, and a built-in wah/volume pedal, and it borrowed the Variax digital input from the flagship Vetta II amp so a Variax guitar, amp model, and effects chain can all change with a single footswitch.

This amp modeler covers a huge range of classic and modern amps, cabinets, and mics, with nearly 100 stompbox and studio effects courtesy of the preinstalled FX Junkie Model Pack. Run up to eight effects at once in front of or after the amp, then polish the sound with the four-band semi-parametric EQ and vintage studio compressor. A rear-panel Amp/Line switch tailors the stereo outputs for a guitar amp or a direct feed to the board or PA, and the USB port turns it into a recording interface with Mac and PC editing through Line 6 Edit. Line 6 also offered optional Model Packs such as Metal Shop and Collector Classics to expand the amp lineup even further.
