Up for sale is an absolutely gorgeous vintage McKinney six-string electric lap steel, dating to the 1950s and built by Valco in Chicago!

These are seriously cool instruments. Closely related to the legendary Supro Supreme, this McKinney features an incredible aged white pearloid finish, beautiful geometric fretboard markers, and that unmistakable mid-century styling. It's one of those instruments that looks just as good on display as it does in a collection of vintage steel guitars.

The construction features the distinctive Valco-style string-through pickup assembly with its large black cover, along with simple volume and tone controls. These old Valco steels are celebrated for their bold, lively electric sound and have become favorites among blues, country, Hawaiian, and slide players.

The guitar presents very nicely for its age. The pearloid covering has developed a wonderful creamy appearance with natural aging and light cosmetic wear. The fretboard graphics remain attractive, the original McKinney headstock badge is present, and the overall instrument has a fantastic vintage aesthetic.

The original Kluson Deluxe tuners have been replaced with Gibson Deluxe tuning machines. The previous tuners are included with the guitar, as pictured. This modification is worth noting for collectors, but the replacement tuners maintain an appropriate vintage appearance.

Serial Number: X4-22

Cosmetically, the instrument shows normal vintage wear, including light scratches, handling marks, and some age-related discoloration. The pearloid body remains especially attractive, and the guitar is a lovely example of this increasingly hard-to-find style.

A vintage fitted hardshell case is included. The case shows expected exterior wear but makes a great companion to the instrument.

A fantastic piece of American electric guitar history from the golden age of lap steel manufacturing. Between the McKinney branding, Valco construction, pearloid finish, and classic pickup design, this one has tons of personality.
