Outfitted with a 12″ Celestion V-Type speaker, the PRS Archon Classic 50 Combo delivers pristine clean to edge of breakup sounds with ease. The 3-dimensional tone of this amp brings full low-end response and lush highs, all while maintaining excellent note separation and articulation.

The Archon Classic 50 Combo features an intuitive control layout with 3-band EQ that allows players to dial in their desired tone. The individual channel volume and master volume controls work together to command the amp’s loudness and distortion. The bright switch acts almost as a treble boost, putting a shine on the amp’s high-end without going into icepick territory. The global presence and depth controls in the Archon’s power amp section both work to modify the feedback network of the amp to unleash the potential of the high- and low-end respectively. Turning up the Presence control releases more high-mid and treble frequencies, bringing the amp’s tone forward. Depending on the tone stack and volume settings, the Presence can change the gain/texture and loudness of the high-end, making your tone wilder and more 3-dimensional (or more “present” sounding). In addition to adding low-end, the Depth control allows players to choose between a tight, focused sound or a more resonant, bass-heavy response. For players looking to add a pedal board, the Archon Classic provides ample headroom and built-in effects loop in addition to its ultra-clean tonal platform.

Number of Channels

The Archon Classic is a 2-channel amp, delivering pristine cleans, edge of breakup overdrive, and classic gain. With a 3-band EQ for each channel, the Archon allows players simple versatility to dial in their tone.

Modern Design

Modern features include a Master Volume per channel, tone-shaping Presence and Depth controls, a tube-driven effects loop, and individually-voiced channels.

Lead and Clean Channels

T/M/B Tone Stack

Each channel has a 3-band EQ, so you can use the Treble, Middle, and Bass controls to dial-in your desired tone.

Volume vs. Master

The Volume control increases the amp’s distortion as you turn it up. It also effects volume or loudness. The Master control can be used in combination with the volume control to increase the loudness of the amp. Generally, as you lower the Master and increase the Volume, the amp will break up more immediately.

Bright Switch

The Bright Switch allows more high-end frequencies to come through, making the tone brighter. The intent here is to put some “shine” on the tone without it becoming harsh.

Presence

Turning up the presence control releases more high-mid and treble, bringing the amp’s tone forward. Depending on the tone stack and volume settings, the presence can change the gain/texture and loudness of the high-end, making your tone wilder and more 3-dimensional (or more “present”).

Depth

The Depth control modifies the feedback network of the amp, effecting the low end and unleashing its potential without the tone getting flabby or muddy. In addition to adding low-end, Depth adds a resonance to those frequencies that more 3-dimensionally shapes the amp’s tone. Because of this, Depth can also be used to balance the voicing of your amp cabinet. Woofy cabinet, decrease the Depth. Boxy cabinet, increase the Depth.
