1989 Marshall JCM800 5205 Reverb 12 guitar amplifier

Brilliant 1989 Marshall Reverb 12. Massively under-rated at the time but as the years have rolled on, these 80s Marshall solid state amps have attracted real attention. Proper JCM800 Marshall roar in a 12 watt portable package.

Usual Marshall single channel layout: gain, volume, treble, middle, bass and reverb. Comes with a line out socket to extend the signal and a headphone socket which cuts the signal to the internal speaker for family-friendly late-night noodling. 

Proper spring reverb. Celestion 10" speaker. Serial number is X18360.

This amp covers the range: it'll do a very nice clean sound, variations of the 'just starting to break up' sound and then the full throated Marshall roar that we all know and love. And like lots of these 80s Marshall s/states, it somehow really does sound and feel like it's got valves in the back. I'm lucky enough to have a 6101 30th Anniversary to compare it with and the Reverb 12 still sounds big, open, warm, very responsive and has that proper natural 'valve'-type compression when driven hard. I don't know how it sounds that good, but it really does.

One of the reasons these amps have in recent years become recognised as really useful bits of kit is that they are fabulous for recording. Either out of the line out, through the headphone socket or, if you are a traditionalist like me, just using a mic on the front, this amp sounds great. And recording a small amp running loud will always sound better than a big amp running quietly.

You can absolutely gig with one of these as a 12 watt Marshall is still seriously loud, and it sounds great through a PA. As it's 16ohm, the amp will happily run a bigger extension cab, including a 4 x 12.
I have four of these and have used them variously for practice at home, rehearsal with the band, teaching, recording and gigging and have been very happy in all those situations.

All original as far as I can see with no mods, 'improvements' or general messing about. 

This one has been in the studio and not gigged and has no issues that I'm aware of. Tolex is in very good condition, grille is undamaged. Some minor tarnishing to the metal screws and studs as usual with the age. All corner pieces, knobs and feet present and intact. White Marshall logo is still nice and bright. All pots and sockets working fine. No electrical or sonic issues, everything is doing what is should and sounds very nice.

Comes fully checked over and cleaned up.

There is a lot of stuff on the internet about these amps, including some wildly enthusiastic demo videos where people get far too carried away shouting about how good the sound is. I know the feeling, but I'm English so I don't shout about very much at any time. Nonetheless, the sound is certainly worth shouting about.
