Four channels for flexible recording set-ups

The Black Lion Audio Auteur Quad2 houses four microphone preamps in a compact 19-inch, 1U chassis. Each channel features a fast, transparent IC input stage and an output stage with US-manufactured Cinemag transformers. As a result, the preamp combines direct transient response with a tonal character that becomes more pronounced at higher gain settings. This makes it suitable for drums and percussion as well as vocals, guitars and bass.

66 dB gain and full control per channel

With a gain range of +10 to +66 dB, the Auteur Quad2 offers sufficient gain for various types of microphones, including ribbon microphones and dynamic microphones requiring higher gain. +48 V phantom power, a 10 dB pad and polarity reversal can be switched separately for each channel. Four illuminated analogue VU metres directly display the output level of the respective channel.

Connect microphones, line-level and instrument signals directly

In addition to the balanced XLR microphone inputs on the rear panel, there are four 6.35 mm jack inputs on the front panel. These can be switched between ‘Line’ and ‘Hi Z’ per channel, making them suitable for guitars, basses, keyboards, drum machines or other line-level sources. As soon as a 6.35 mm plug is connected, the corresponding XLR input is deactivated. Balanced XLR and 6.35 mm TRS outputs are available for routing to an audio interface, patchbay or other outboard equipment.

From single tracks to multi-channel sessions

Four independent channels make the Auteur Quad2 ideal for sessions where multiple signals are recorded simultaneously. It can handle a drum kit as well as multiple instruments, voice recordings with several people or two stereo sources. The black brushed aluminium casing houses Cinemag transducers alongside selected Nichicon and Vishay capacitors. This means the preamp is designed for regular use in the studio and in larger rack set-ups.
