The M5-F-SB is Bourgeois's first F-style mandolin offered in sunburst, with an Aged Tone Adirondack spruce top over European maple back and sides. The neck is also Aged Tone maple.
Aged Tone is Bourgeois's heat treatment for the wood, meant to give a new mandolin the response of an older one. Scale length is 13 7/8 inches, the nut is bone at 1 5/32 inches, and the fingerboard and adjustable bridge are ebony.
Waverly Golden Age tuners and a custom engraved Bill James tailpiece in satin nickel make up the hardware, and a Loar-style rectangular hardshell case comes with it. It suits players who want an F-style body with a gloss sunburst finish. Players who want a more compact body should look at the A-style M5-A-SB instead.
