A really cool and increasingly hard-to-find Fender from the Pawn Shop Special series, produced around 2013–2014.

The Ramparte is a wonderfully characterful little valve amp, with a 6L6 power valve, two 12AX7 preamp valves and a 12” speaker. It has two inputs — Hot and Cool — giving very different levels of gain and response.

This particular example is in excellent cosmetic condition for its age. The distinctive brown/cream Fender finish is very clean, with only minor signs of use.

Condition

The amplifier is fully working and produces the expected Fender valve tones.

I’ve tested both the Hot and Cool inputs and the amplifier responds correctly to the controls.

As with many high-gain valve amplifiers, the Hot input is more sensitive and can produce some background noise/hum when the input is left open with no guitar connected. When a guitar is plugged in, the noise reduces considerably. This is mentioned for complete transparency and does not prevent the amplifier from being used normally.

The valves have also been tested by swapping the two 12AX7 preamp valves, with no change to the amplifier’s operation.
