The 2012 Fender American Vintage ’57 Stratocaster AVRI (American Vintage Reissue) marks a highly significant year for Fender's historic reissue timeline. In August 2012, Fender officially retired this long-running model (originally introduced in 1998) to make way for the completely overhauled "Pure Vintage" series. Consequently, a 2012 AVRI '57 Stratocaster could either be one of the final production models of the classic 1998–2012 specifications or one of the earliest examples of the redesigned, flash-coated "Pure Vintage" series launched later that year.
