National Triolian 1931 - Poly-chrome Hawaian Scene fantastic sound

1931 National Triolian PolyChrome Resonator Guitar with Original case!

From the serial number, it appears to be from 1931, perhaps 1930. This is a very early 30s model with the polychrome finish and the maple fretboard which are distinctive for that era. It also has the more notable Hawaiian stencil scene on the back, which makes it even more rare and sought after.

It has been played a good deal, and it always should be. The tone is amazing, with great cutting quality yet rounded and never harsh as many resonator guitars tend to be when driven harder. It has precise slide ability and rings like few other resonator l've ever had, and I have had dozens. The body and neck show signs of player wear but not abuse. There may be some overspray on the back of the neck, but it feels great. One could consider 0000 steel wool to remove it, but it feels perfect the way it is. 

The guitar had had a recent refret and neck set by master luthier Thomas Amberger who worked on hundreds of old Nationals and precisely knows how the neck angle needs to be set on such sensitive instruments. The guitar is set up with the medium low action that most resonator players favor, great for slide but still easy enough for fretted playing. 

The Triolian logo on the headstock is mostly flaked away, but it remains an incredible original instrument from the best era – the new resonator guitars can be good but none is nearly as subtle and warm as the best ones of the original era. 

The guitar comes with its original black case, which is still rather solid and a rarity in itself.
