Gibson "The Paul" Les Paul 1979

The Paul, Les Paul's have thinner, all walnut bodies, and slimmer walnut necks than the more common 50's type necks. They are more like the 60's 'slim' neck spec. Not Ibanez Wizard / Jackson Dinky slender, but notably thinner than a traditional LP neck, definitely smaller in the hand. For players with a smaller hand, who might feel the traditional LP necks are a "bit more than a handful", these are PERFECT.
The bodies have shallow contouring, the back has a shallow belly bevel and the top has an arm bevel across the top/left side. Very comfortable to play standing or sitting and they all weigh between 7-8 lbs. with no chambering.
Produced between '78 and '82, Gibson extended production of the model into 1985 under the name: The Paul "Firebrand" these were all Mahogany vs Walnut, guitars made between '82 - '85.

The 1st "affordable" Les Paul, retail prices were half the cost of a Standard at the time, the top is not carved, there is no binding or MOP inlays on the neck or headstock. The fretboard is ebony, and key electronics were exactly the same parts and pickups making The Paul a great deal at the time vs the Standard.

This was a studio "House" guitar for several years, has a story, and was used on hundreds of recording sessions, kept well maintained ready to play, and has never had any significant repairs needed.

The stop tail, bridge and studs are new aged nickel Gibson authentic parts, the original ABR1 bridge sag was significant enough with the corrosion on the saddles etc, to warrant a replacement, the stop tail stud tops were pretty chewed up from some one using a small screw driver to adjust them under tension and the stop tail was corroded, scratched and a bit crusty, that hardware (bridge, stoptail, stoptail studs) was replaced. The original ABR1 bridge studs and wheels were retained. The neck joint is rock solid, no cracks, the guitar has authentic wear on the back and an assortment of nicks and chips scratches and dings on the top, finish wear on the neck.

The guitar plays and sounds fantastic. Frets are solid, worn but level, have plenty of life in them. Truss rod works, guitar is totally solid, no issues.

A set of Seymour Duncan Zebra Alnico2 APH-1 pickups werre installed at some point when one of the T-Tops failed some years ago. All the original cavity electronics (pots, caps, wiring etc.) are as original.
It has the original Grover machine heads, with a unique set of squared off translucent Grover pearloid vintage tuner buttons. The guitar did not come with a pick guard.

A brand new set of Ernie Ball Slinky 9’s installed, The tone is warm when you want it, brightens up nicely when needed. The electronics have been checked, tested and cleaned. Tone and volume pots work perfectly, no jumps, noise, or dead spots.
The Duncans ring beautifully when clean, yet absolutely howl when you want them to. The guitar has been thoroughly checked tested and set up, nut slots are set properly, real Ebony fret board has been conditioned and treated, strings are top wrapped, action is low, no buzzing.

If you were considering an authentic vintage 70’s Gibson Les Paul you don't have to be super precious about, appreciate natural wood finish, light weight, authentic aging, and that killer Gibson Les Paul sound,..this is that guitar!

Two (2) cases available, a new molded Road Runner hard case OR a lightly used modern Gibson Deluxe Molded Black Case. Similar to the "chainsaw" case but more modern featuring 4 heavy duty TSA approved latches with a pivoting soft grip ergo handle and black powder coated hardware. Both have accessory compartments, plush lining, and do a fantastic job of protecting the guitar so she will arrive safe and sound. the Roadrunner is a bit more stealth, you aren’t advertising what is inside, and a bit less $$. The Gibson molded case will be more as they are almost $300 retail.

** Asking price includes Premium Molded Gibson deluxe case both are pictured. If you choose the RoadRunner case pictured, the price will drop by $100 to $1,500.

This instrument has a history and it should go to a new owner who appreciates that and will continue to build on it, make music with it, take care of it.

Serial # is: #73049607, made in Nashville Tenn. on Halloween day, October 31st 1979. This is reinforced by the ink stamp under the pots in the control cavity that says "Oct 30, 1979"...
