Pre Owned Reverend Pete Anderson PA-1 Satin Natural Hollowbody Electric

Includes Case

The Reverend Pete Anderson PA-1 Satin Natural is a distinctive hollowbody designed with country/roots-rock guitarist and producer Pete Anderson, best known for his work with Dwight Yoakam. It combines a vintage hollowbody sound and appearance with several modern features aimed at controlling feedback and improving playability

  • Hollowbody construction: Laminated spruce top with laminated maple back and sides gives it the woody, resonant character you'd expect from a traditional hollowbody.
  • Uni-Brace system: This is probably the PA-1's most interesting feature. A full-depth Korina brace connects the top and back, helping reduce uncontrolled feedback while adding sustain, attack, and clarity. PPremier Guitar
  • Two Reverend 9A5 P-90-style pickups: They deliver a combination of raw midrange, bite, twang, and warmth. The bridge is particularly well suited to country/rockabilly sounds, while the neck can get considerably rounder and jazzier. SSweetwater
  • Bass Contour control: Instead of simply rolling off treble, this control lets you progressively tighten the low end and make the guitar brighter and more focused—or fuller and thicker.
  • Treble-bleed circuit: Rolling the volume down retains more high-end detail, so you can clean up an overdriven amp without the guitar becoming muddy. MMerchant City Music
  • Bigsby B-70 vibrato with roller bridge: Great for subtle pitch movement, rockabilly-style warble, and atmospheric chord work rather than extreme dive-bombing.
  • 24¾-inch scale: The slightly shorter Gibson-like scale gives the PA-1 a comfortable, relatively slinky feel.
  • Three-piece Korina neck: Medium-Oval profile, 22 medium-jumbo frets and a 12" fingerboard radius make it a fairly versatile neck for both chord work and lead playing. MMerchant City Music
  • Pin-lock tuners and Boneite nut: Practical modern touches that help tuning stability, particularly useful with the Bigsby

How it sounds

I'd describe the PA-1 as sitting somewhere between a Gretsch-style hollowbody, a P-90-equipped Gibson, and a classic country guitar.

Bridge pickup:
Bright, punchy, cutting, slightly gritty — excellent for country, rockabilly, roots rock and blues.

Middle position:
Probably the most characteristic sound: woody, articulate and jangly, with enough P-90 growl to keep it from sounding overly polite.

Neck pickup:
Warm, round and somewhat jazzy, but still retains enough attack to keep individual notes defined.

The really nice thing is that it isn't just a "vintage hollowbody" that becomes unusable when you turn up the amp. The Uni-Brace was specifically developed so Pete could get the hollowbody character at higher stage volumes without the guitar feeding uncontrollably.
