Yamaha Arius YDP-S56B 88-Key GrandTouch-E Digital Piano, Black

The YDP-S56: A Digital Piano Built for Everyday Musical Growth
The Yamaha YDP-S56 is a digital piano designed for beginning players and those returning to the instrument after time away. Part of Yamaha's ARIUS Series, it draws on more than a century of Yamaha's acoustic piano craftsmanship to deliver an authentic playing experience in a slim, home-friendly package. The instrument combines a responsive keyboard, a sound sampled from Yamaha's flagship concert grand piano, and smart digital features, all wrapped in a design built to blend into everyday living spaces. Whether used for daily practice or simply for the joy of playing, the YDP-S56 positions itself as a long-term partner in a player's musical journey.

Playability
At the heart of the YDP-S56 is its 88-key GrandTouch-E™ keyboard, engineered to respond to a player's touch with a feel close to that of a grand piano. It offers consistent feel and expressive response across playing styles, from powerful to delicate to fast, so players can build genuine musicality rather than just technique. The piano also includes three pedals—damper, soft, and sostenuto—with the damper pedal featuring half-pedaling capability. This allows players to control the depth of the pedal press to sustain sounds for as long or as short as they wish, enabling more nuanced, intricate performances.
Sound
The YDP-S56 features a Voice sampled directly from the Yamaha CFX concert grand piano, bringing richly colorful tone and expressive depth across all registers into the home. Sound is delivered through a 20W × 2 stereo amplifier paired with 12cm speakers and a new diffuser grille, which makes treble notes clearer even at a distance while maintaining balanced sound throughout the range. The instrument also includes Virtual Resonance Modeling Lite (VRM Lite), which simulates the complex resonance of a grand piano's strings. Played together with the pedals, this technology produces a wider variety of natural, resonant sounds.
Design and Digital Features
The YDP-S56 has a slim, stylish body that appears flat when the keyboard lid is closed, allowing it to blend seamlessly into apartments, living rooms, and other home spaces. It's available in a lineup of colors to suit different interiors. Digitally, the piano offers a total of 10 Voices—including piano, electric piano, and strings—along with 353 preset songs, a metronome, and recording functions. Automatic volume control makes headphone listening more comfortable, and Bluetooth® connectivity allows users to stream music, use the piano as a speaker, or pair it with the free Smart Pianist app for simplified controls, sheet music access, and practice support.
Why We Love This
Our gear experts appreciate the YDP-S56 for how closely it mirrors an acoustic grand piano's touch and tone, thanks to its GrandTouch-E™ keyboard and CFX-sampled sound. The half-pedaling damper and VRM Lite resonance modeling let players shape nuanced, expressive performances rather than flat, static notes. Its slim design fits naturally into home life, while Bluetooth connectivity and the Smart Pianist app make daily practice more engaging—giving beginners and returning players alike a genuine, satisfying instrument to grow with.
