The Martin 000C Jr-E Satin is one of those guitars that makes you wonder why every acoustic isn't this comfortable. It's compact enough to be incredibly easy to live with, but Martin packed it with the stuff that makes their larger guitars so satisfying: a solid spruce top, solid sapele back and sides, scalloped X-bracing, a full 1 3/4" nut, and a comfortable Performing Artist neck. Add the 000 Junior cutaway and 24.9" scale length, and you've got a guitar that's extremely friendly to play without feeling like you've traded away the fundamentals of a proper Martin. And yes, it's an acoustic-electric, with Martin's E1 system and built-in tuner included. A softshell case is included as well.
The 000C Jr-E is part of Martin's Junior Series, which takes the basic idea of a full-size Martin and shrinks the physical footprint without shrinking the playing experience. The 000 Junior body is particularly appealing because it lands in that sweet spot between a traditional 000 and a travel guitar. You get a comfortable, compact body that sits easily against you, while the 14-fret cutaway gives you much easier access to the upper register. This is a guitar that makes a ton of sense for songwriting, fingerstyle, casual strumming, lessons, travel, and just leaving it on the couch where you'll actually pick it up and play it.
The construction is anything but disposable. Martin gives the 000C Jr-E a solid spruce top and solid sapele back and sides, with scalloped spruce X-bracing underneath. The spruce top provides clarity, projection, and plenty of dynamic range, while sapele brings a warm, punchy midrange that keeps the smaller body from sounding thin. The scalloped bracing lets the top move and breathe, helping produce the kind of resonance and responsiveness you'd expect from a much more substantial Martin.
The neck is another big part of why this guitar is so approachable. The Performing Artist Profile and High-Performance Taper are thoroughly modern Martin appointments, and the 1 3/4" nut gives your fretting hand plenty of room without making the neck feel cumbersome. The 24.9" scale is just a touch shorter than Martin's traditional 25.4" scale, which contributes to the relaxed feel while still retaining a very familiar acoustic-guitar experience. The Richlite fingerboard has a gently beveled comfort edge, and the 20 frets are Plek'd for precise fretwork. In other words, Martin didn't just make the body smaller and call it a day — they thought about the entire playing experience.
Visually, the Satin finish keeps things simple and understated. The natural spruce top and naturally stained sapele body let the woods speak for themselves, while the faux tortoise pickguard, single-ring faux-abalone rosette, Style 28 faux-abalone fingerboard inlays, and satin chrome enclosed-gear tuners give it enough traditional Martin character to keep it from looking generic. The Richlite bridge and fingerboard are practical choices, too, particularly on a guitar that's clearly designed to be played, carried around, and taken along for the ride.
And when it's time to plug in, you've got Martin E1 electronics with a built-in chromatic tuner. The E1 system gives you straightforward onboard controls for shaping your amplified sound, without requiring a Ph.D. in acoustic-electric guitar electronics. The compact body, cutaway, shorter scale, and onboard electronics make this a particularly versatile little guitar for performing, recording, rehearsing, or simply having around the house.
The 000C Jr-E Satin is a great choice for anyone who wants the comfort and convenience of a smaller acoustic without giving up the feel of a real Martin. It's easy to hold, easy to play, easy to travel with, and — most importantly — it has the solid-wood construction and thoughtful design that make it much more than just a "small guitar." Put one in your hands, and the Junior designation starts to feel like a technicality.
