Blankenship VariPlex 100W Handwired Plexi / Super Lead Amp

Putting up my Blankenship VariPlex 100W head. This is Roy Blankenship's hand-wired take on a late-'60s Marshall Plexi / 1959 Super Lead, from the VariPlex design Roy developed with Dave Friedman.

This particular amp actually has a pretty well-documented history online. It was previously modified by Kruse Amplification and appeared in a 2020 Totally Rad Guitars article while it was in rough shape. It was later sent back to Roy Blankenship himself, who removed the mods and restored the amp. It has also been through Donald Lee Service in Kissimmee since then.

The old writeup has internal photos documenting the red turret-board construction, caps and Mercury/ClassicTone transformer/choke setup.

It's now back to a straightforward Plexi-style layout: Volume I and II, Presence, Bass, Middle and Treble. Huge, dynamic, incredibly loud old-school Marshall sound and it takes boost/drive pedals incredibly well.

Cosmetically it's a cool old custom build rather than a museum piece. The white head shell has some normal marks and there are small holes where the old Marshall-style logo was removed during the restoration. Please see the photos.

Everything works as it should. I've used it in the studio and on a few recordings and it sounds fantastic. I'm only selling because I recently picked up a JCM800 2203X and simply don't need two big 100-watt Marshall-style heads.
