Klira TWEN STAR VIOLIN BASS 1966? - MADE IN GERMANY SUNBURST w/CLEAN HARD CASE

German made Klira violin bass guitar very similar to the Beatle Bass. Both were made in the town of Bubenreuther with both companies located very close to each other back in the 60s. Check out the tailpiece on this bass for the family resemblance. Klira was a company making stringed instruments starting in 1887 (same as Höfner) and they started making guitars etc. in the 1950's.

The Twen Star model is violin shaped and the dimensions are very similar to the Höfner but has cat's eye sound holes, two chrome covered pickups, a volume and a tone control plus a 3 position pickup switch. Everything works like it should and the sound is full. Plays great with a narrow fingerboard and a beefy fat neck. Has a zero fret and a bolt-on neck joint.

The original bridge was replaced with a Höfner bridge with the individual sliding metal saddles. The original Klira bridge is in the case.

The case is great. Very sturdy perfect fitting, plush and clean. Hinges and latches super clean and function perfectly.

Plays very comfortably and sounds great. Very little fret wear. I believe the strings are LaBella for Höfner but in any case they are good quality flats.

Finish has crazing as you can see in the photos but not scratched or dinged up. Well cared for. You can see one small chip in the finish on the back in the last photo. Gears work well and for a 60 year old bass it's in excellent shape. Built to last for sure.
