The harmonic complexity, touch sensitivity, dynamic response and tonal balance is one of a kind. This particular Low Wattage Komet TA60 is just as amazing as the full power K60. The Lower power TA60 has all the tonal quality of the higher powered amp and the TA60 also has a couple additional advantages over the original high powered Komet 60 including being less loud.

The beauty of the original Komet 60 is that Ken Fischer designed it to be versatile and you can use 6L6, 5881, EL34, 6CA7, KT66, etc. The power tubes you select changes the sonic character of the amp but not the amazing rich harmonic complexity, detailed touch sensitivity, responsiveness, articulation or singing sustain. Because you can voice the amp both with preamp and power tubes you have a super flexible and versatile amplifier with "Holy Grail" tone.

You really should NOT use 6V6 power tubes in a Full Power Komet 60 because the voltage the amp runs at is too high and will eat 6V6s up and the tubes are prone to blowing up. That is why at Trey Anastasio's request, Komet Amplification spent about 9 months and evaluated 8 different sets of custom transformers to design the custom Low Wattage Komet TA60 for him. The result is an amp that is every bit as magnificent sounding as a normal Komet 60

Even with EL34s or 6L6s the lower wattage Komet TA 60 is down to 40 watts instead of 60 watts. That makes it almost identical in output to a real Ken Fisher Trainwreck Express wattage. This helps by changing the output volume to a more useable loudness for many players who don't play large concert halls even when using EL34, 6L6, KT66, etc. It also allows for the use of some great sounding lower wattage speakers with a 2x12 speaker cab or medium wattage speakers in a 1x12 combo or with a 1x12 speaker cabinet. This is not possible with the high powered 60 watt Komet.

A great additional advantage with the lower wattage Komet TA 60 is that you can now also safely use a pair of 6V6s for 20 watt output. The low wattage Komet sounds fantastic with 6V6s (especially if you get the optional NOS 6V6s) as the amp was R&D by Komet Amplification for this tube as well. In addition the volume is spot on for small clubs using a 1X12 combo or head and 1X12 cabinet. This is especially true when you use a lower efficiency speaker like Trey's favorite the Celestion Heritage G1265. (The speaker Robben Ford also uses with his Dumble). Of course you can still use any of the higher output tubes like 6L6, 5881, KT66, 6CA7, EL34, etc that you could run in the original Komet 60

Use of the fast / gradual switch in this tube rectified amp allows for a classic vintage feel with a little rectifier tube sag in the gradual mode or very fast, dynamic and articulate touch sensitivity in the fast mode. Everyone knows turning up the presence control on an amp adds sustain but it also add a lot of high end which many players don't want. The combination of Ken Fischer's design of both a presence control and hi cut control means you can add sustain dialing up the presence control but also use the hi-cut control to remove some of the extra brightness the presence control adds.
