Steinberger XL-2 6677 EVH
A Steinberger XL-2 bass, serial number 6677, built in Newburgh, NY, circa 1990. The faceplate is a custom after-market EVH 5150 design.
The one-piece molded graphite body and neck mean no truss rod, no dead spots, and no seasonal setup drift. It doesn’t care about humidity, it doesn’t care about stage lights, and it holds tune in conditions that would put a wooden instrument out of commission.
The XL-2. The bass that started it all — Ned’s original headless design, refined into its production form. 34″ scale, 24-fret phenolic fingerboard, and the Steinberger bridge with its direct-drive tuners. The tone is famously focused and punchy, with the even response across the neck that only a one-piece graphite instrument delivers.
Two EMG HBCS humbuckers. Active, quiet, and articulate, with two volume controls and a master tone.
