The RSG-60 '69 or RSG-65 '69 from the Burny Revival series is their 1969 SG Standard model - similar to the original 1969 Gibson SG Standard. The RSG-60 came in two different models - the RSG-60 '63 (a 1963 style SG with small pickguard) and the RSG-60 '69 like this one. The RSG-60 was released in 1989 and ran until 1992, changing its name to RSG-65 in 1991 with a price increase.
It's pretty common to see the '63 model, but I find it less common to see the '69 models like this one.
On this particular RSG, there's no visible serial number (which is typical for a Burny from this era), and the original pots don't have any date codes on them, but this one should be from 1990 - 1992 because it has the VH-1 pickups installed (silver baseplates) - which were added to this model in 1990.
Burny had Fujigen and Dyna Gakki making their SG models during this time. They are very similar, but there are some differences - you can tell them apart by the control cavity route. This one is a Fujigen Gakki built SG custom (similar to Greco SS series of this era).
I've had a numerous different MIJ SG's from different brands (Greco, Burny, Aria, Epiphone, Orville, Navigator, Edwards, Bacchus, etc...), and I'd say the body carve on this one is up there with the best of them - it is done very well. The side of the body on the top side (bass side) is thin. The bevels and shaping on this guitar are closer to a modern Gibson custom shop, rather than a Gibson standard.
Everything on this guitar appears to be original, and this guitar is in good player grade condition. It has been played, and has some typical dings, dents, chips, you'd expect on a 35+ year old guitar, and since it's a gloss black guitar, it has its share of scratches and swirling in the gloss black finish, but nothing major and this guitar has not been abused.
This Burny is made with a mahogany neck mated to a mahogany body. I cannot see any seams through the finish on the neck, so it's likely a 1 piece neck, and it's possible there are 2 seams on the body, so it's likely a 3 piece body, but since it's a gloss black finish, there's no way no know for sure.
The neck itself is narrow - like a typical 1969 Gibson SG would be - with a nut width of 40.8mm. The neck has a nice C shape carve staring out at 21.5mm at the 1st fret and making its way up to 24.2mm by the 12th fret - it's comfortable to play.
This one also features a incredibly beautiful rosewood fretboard that has a lovely grain all the way up the board, along with acrylic celluloid looking trapezoid inlays.
It has been played so there is light play wear across the 22 medium jumbo, mainly on the 1st to 12th fret on the plain strings. but overall the frets still have lots of life left in them and the guitar plays great all the way up the fretboard.
The Original chrome covered VH-1 pickups sound fantastic - they can cover almost any genre well. They can clean up when you roll off the volume, but can easily push your amp into break up. The VH-1's are one of the many great sounding PAF or modern PAF style pickups to come out of Japan in that era.
The black plastics are all in tact, and in good shape too, with some typical pick marks on the pickguard, and typical swirling on all of the other plastics.
All the guitars I sell, I test, thoroughly clean, and setup completely before I list them. Anything that is missing, damaged, or non original is mentioned in the listing.
I setup all my Gibson style guitars to Gibson factory specs - including neck relief, action, pickup height, intonation, and tailpiece height. So this guitar will be ready to play out of the box (after you tune it up - I ship my guitars with the strings loosened).
Comes with a new quality made Profile G05TX gig bag.
Overall, this is classic SG that looks as good as it sounds, is built incredibly well, and plays great.
Weather you're a player, or collector, you'll want this Burny RSG-60 '69 in your collection today.
CONDITION ------------
Overall it's in very good player grade shape.
I've tried to capture all of the flaws in the photos and in the description.
There are many dings, dents, scratches and chips in the finish all over the guitar, and like most gloss black guitars, over the entire body of the guitar, top, back, sides, neck and headstock, there are some fine scratches and swirling, but nothing major.
There is a scratch on the back of the neck.
The black paint on the headstock has some minor swirling & scratches.
All of the black plastics have typical scratches, pick marks, and swirling on them.
The chrome hardware, including the bridge, tailpiece, pickup covers and pole pieces, nickel tuners, and screws all have varying degrees of corrosion, pitting, scratches, and/or rust, although they still have lots of shine on them, and they all have a nice and consistent patina to them.
All of the unbranded Kluson style tuners are straight and work properly. Some are tighter than others, but they all turn smoothly and function as they should.
Around the strap buttons there's some minor strap marks/swirling.
The frets have been played, and there is some minor play wear on the 1st-12 frets mainly on the plain strings, but overall there's lots of life left in these frets, and the guitar plays well up and down the entire neck.
The truss rod works as expected with room in both directions. The truss rod nut itself is difficult to access because of the way the cavity was routed, so you need a shallow truss rod wrench.
