Incredibly rare, vintage 1961 Gretsch Tennessean 6113 “Non Chet” transitional model. In immaculate condition. This thing is gorgeous, plays amazing and sounds incredible. Pure vintage goodness.

The 6113 is a little-known and particularly intriguing footnote in Gretsch Tennessean history, with origins that remain somewhat hazy. As the 6119 Tennessean transitioned in the early 1960s from its original single-pickup configuration to the Electrotone-bodied design, there was apparently discussion within Gretsch to discontinue the 6119 and introduce an entirely new 6113 model in its place.

According to the surviving accounts, the proposed change reportedly created some complications with Chet Atkins and royalty arrangements, ultimately leading Gretsch to shelve the 6113. The twin-pickup 6119 Tennessean we know today subsequently carried on where the short-lived 6113 left off.

Very few 6113 examples are believed to have escaped the Gretsch factory, making surviving instruments exceptionally scarce. They remain one of the more obscure and fascinating chapters in the history of the Tennessean, occasionally surfacing to the delight—and considerable confusion—of even the most knowledgeable Gretsch collectors.

This guitar is a rare and special part of Gretsch’s lineage and will only continue to increase in value. Especially in this condition.
