This is the first-generation SensiTone Custom Alloy, built in Taiwan in the late 1990s, serial number 12647 — before Pearl tacked "Elite" onto the name. Drummers have been comparing these to the Ludwig Supraphonic for twenty-five years, and at this price that's a fight the Pearl wins.

The 6.5-inch depth gives it a sharp, authoritative crack with real projection, and it still picks up ghost notes and light playing. Steel shell means bright and lively — it cuts through two guitars without going thin or harsh. Tune it low and fat for a big backbeat, or crank it high and tight for funk and pop.
