This an unused, NOS (New Old Stock), Peavey JSX Mini Colossal Combo Amp in immaculate condition. I purchased it for a Studio that never happened and it has been stored since new (bought a cover to keep dust Off - Cover is included). It's one of my "Unicorns" for sale as these have been out of production for 10 years, and here is this one last one just as it left the factory.

Revered as a great practice/recording Amp that is easy to store and transport. Perfect for a Home Studio environment and with the built-in Power Sponge you can push the Amp to the saturation point you want but keep the output in the room to a low level to please the natives (of course, once broken-in properly, playing thru the 8" Weber at higher volume will yield better sound).

OVERVIEW
From the Joe Satriani series, the Peavey JSX Mini Colossal Guitar Amp is a great answer to the question of how to get great tube sound out of a small combo amplifier at manageable volumes. The feature that makes it happen is Peavey's trademarked Power Sponge: a unique control that allows the user to adjust the nominal output power level of the amplifier. It can be used in conjunction with the volume control to attain infinite combinations of power amp and preamp distortion at any volume level. This control DOES NOT affect the level of the Microphone Simulated Recording output and provides an appropriate load to the amplifier at all settings.

Speaker outputs are provided as paralleled 1/4" mono tip-sleeve jacks for the connection of speaker enclosures. Minimum speaker impedance is 4 Ohms. You set the cabinet Impedance Selector switch to match the load of the speaker cabinet(s). The internal speaker is 8 Ohms.

A recording out XLR jack is used to route a Microphone Simulated signal (tapped directly from the speaker being used) from the amplifier to an external recording device or PA. It uses a 100% passive circuit to avoid clipping, noise, and other shortcomings of solid-state circuitry.

An 8" Weber speaker is specially voiced to get the absolute best tone out of this combo, whether you're playing clean, crunchy, or full-on distortion. Careful use of the Gain and Volume controls must be observed depending on the desired Clean vs Breakup/Distortion.

Note: For this speaker to reach it's designed "voice" it HAS TO BE properly broken-in over a number of hours of use. Experienced players have clearly detected the change when break-in has occurred - saying "...it suddenly sounds like a different Amp". You then understand why this small Combo is so highly rated and at the same time it has been spoken about badly by others (by those who "didn't get the Memo" on the need for it to be broken-in - they played it New straight out of the box, and were dissatisfied).

Some things can just be plugged-in Brand New and sound great right out of the box - this ISN'T one of them. Per a quick Google search:

• Speaker Break-In: The built-in 8-inch Weber speaker requires significant playing time—often cited as 70+ hours—to loosen up and develop a proper tone.  Users report that the amp sounds significantly better after this break-in period.
• Tube Variance: Some units come with tubes that contribute to a muddy or overly distorted clean channel.  Swapping the preamp tube (e.g., to a TungSol or Mullard 12AX7) or power tubes (e.g., JJ ECC803S) is a common fix to improve clarity and headroom.

Those with proper expectations are rewarded.
