Here for sale we have a Patrick James Eggle Jumbo Acoustic Guitar in Natural finish, hand built by British luthier Patrick James Eggle. Having ceased building under his own name, this Patrick James Eggle has become somewhat of a rarity, and a beautiful one at that. Although this guitar has been named the 'Jumbo', it does sport a body shape that is more similar to a Dreadnought which leads us to believe that the name 'Jumbo' is only a model name.
Made in Shropshire, UK in 2004, this guitar consists of a Solid Spruce top, solid Walnut back and sides, a Mahogany neck, and a 20-fret Ebony fingerboard. Other appointments include Gotoh Delta Series 510 Gold tuners, an Ebony bridge, Flamed Maple binding, and a Flamed Maple endpin strip.
The Mahogany neck plays very well, with the 'C' profile sitting very comfortably in the hand and providing easy fretting and ergonomic thumb positioning in all registers. The Ebony fingerboard is pleasant under the fingers, and with attractive cross inlays adds a real sense of luxury to the playing experience. The traditional 16" radius remains as practical as ever, well suited to both chordal, fingerstyle and melodic playing styles across the register. The Dreadnought-style body shape is comfortable in the arms, with the all-solid construction ensuring a resonant and lively experience for the player.
The voice of the Jumbo is rich and beautiful, and really lives up to the reputation of this iconic luthiers’ instruments. The Walnut back and sides provide a silky smooth bass response that remains detailed and accurate across the dynamic range. The mids are punchy and clear, and add a warmth and clarity to the tone. The top end is sparkly and bright, adding a glistening quality to every note played on the instrument. The dynamic range of the Jumbo is truly impressive. Gentle playing is rewarded with a very tender and soft tone, ramping smoothly up to the rich, loud chord strumming sound that the Dreadnought shape is renowned for. A truly fantastic example of the work of an experienced luthier.
