Fender Mustang, Olympic White, made in USA 1966. This is so pretty. The Mustang launched in 1964 when Fender redesigned their student offerings, offering two pickups and the cool Dynamic Vibrato tailpiece to spice things up. This one dates to 1966, so you get a slab style poplar body, red tort guard, radius laminate Indian rosewood fretboard, the gold transition logo and white button F-key tuners... cute. We've had a few sixties Mustangs through, but the previous handful have all been Dakota Red, so I was most tickled to score this gorgeous creamy Olympic White example. The finish checking is mental: all over the body, super fine and detailed... oh man, you just can't fake this stuff, it's a thing of beauty. The tone is dry, balanced, clear and warm. The short scale neck lends the notes a blooming attack and naturally short sustain, which translates to a punchy clarity that cuts through almost any smattering of gain and effects you can come up with. It's light and resonant, and the slim neck is super comfy too. The trem arm is missing, but aside from that, this all-original little stunner is a very tidy candidate. Small, but mighty.
