This is an exceptionally clean 1980 Gibson Les Paul Custom in Wine Red. For a guitar approaching 50 years old, the condition is remarkable, with only minimal signs of wear. This is one of those guitars that simply hasn’t seen the kind of use most examples from this era have.

We pulled the pickups to verify them. They are the original Gibson T-Top-era humbuckers with period-correct ink date stamps. One is clearly stamped FEB 7 1980, consistent with the guitar’s production period.

The frets are also in excellent shape with plenty of life remaining. There is no indication that this guitar is anywhere near needing a refret.

The Wine Red finish remains exceptionally clean, as does the gold hardware. At 10.2 pounds, it has the substantial feel you expect from a late-Norlin-era Les Paul Custom.

It includes its original Gibson chainsaw case, which is also a major plus.

We don’t throw the word “unicorn” around often, but the combination of condition, originality, original dated pickups and original chainsaw case makes this a pretty special example.

The guitar has been inspected, cleaned, set up and is ready to play.
