Gibson Byrdland — Blonde Top / Cherry Back & Sides (1972)
Made in USA
A gorgeous example of one of Gibson's most storied hollowbody designs — the Byrdland was built to Billy Byrd and Hank Garland's specs with a shorter scale and slimmer body depth for faster playability without sacrificing that big archtop voice. This one has a striking two-tone look: a blonde flamed maple top paired with a deep cherry red finish across the flamed maple back, sides, and neck, with gold hardware, bound ebony fingerboard, and pearl block inlays throughout. It comes in a Gretsch-branded hardshell case with a maroon snakeskin-pattern exterior. Two notable parts swaps are worth mentioning: the original tortoiseshell pickguard has deteriorated with age and been replaced with a custom-made reproduction (the original is included in the case), and the pickup covers currently installed are unbranded replacements — the original gold Gibson-logo covers are included as well, though they're showing corrosion. Gibson only stamped that particular logo on covers for a single year, making the originals a nice piece of history to keep with the guitar even though they're no longer mounted. The truss rod cover has also been replaced and is non-original.
