This cymbal is an early prototype for our upcoming GMD Series — a streamlined approach to our traditional cymbal-making process. The initial hammering is machine-applied for consistency, then each cymbal is hand lathed.
Our signature lathing pattern is designed from bell to edge: minimal lathing around the bell keeps it strong and focused, raw bands through the bow add stick definition and texture, and progressively heavier lathing toward the edge helps the cymbal open up naturally when crashed. The underside follows the same concept with a more subtle treatment.
By eliminating some of the additional hammering, specialty lathing, finishes, cuts, and other labor-intensive steps used on our higher-end models, we can offer a quality cymbal at a more accessible price.
The goal is simple: to create a versatile, affordable hammered cymbal line that can be played by anyone, at any level, in virtually any style of music.
Keep an eye out for the official GMD Series release — a complete lineup of hi-hats, splashes, crashes, rides, and chinas. Until then, these prototypes offer a first chance to experience the series before its full launch.
