Kustom K-200 bass (1968) - "Wineburst" - RARE

Vintage 1968 Kustom USA K-200 Bass - Wineburst Finish with Original DeArmond Pickups + Original Case Rare Model

Incredibly rare, short scale, semi hollow bass in “WineBurst” green to purple burst finish. These are built similarly to the Rickenbacker guitars, with very thin hollow bodies carved from solid maple blocks with hollow chambers inside, and a single slash "cats eye" sound hole. All electronics work as intended. There's a fair amount of checking and a few paint chips (as shown in the photos), but no structural issues. Overall it's in solid shape for being 57 years old.

When I bought it, the bridge pickup wasn't working and the original trapeze tailpiece was missing. Clancey at Rockin' Robin Guitars in Houston found a replacement bridge and got the electronics working as they should (though one of the volume knobs is a bit scratchy). Although not original, this tailpiece works well with the overall aesthetic and performance of the bass. The tuners are original (though they've had a little work done prior to me purchasing the bass) as is the pickguard. It even comes with a little card from the original sale explaining how to adjust the neck. The hard shell case is original and all latches work well. Frets have some life left, but from what I've read they were pretty small to begin with.

The bass is super fun to play. Chris Baio, bassist for Vampire Weekend, used to play one. These don't show up for sale online very often and almost never in this rare color. Only selling because I have too many and need to downsize the collection.
