This is a Strat that got dressed up on purpose. Fender took a shape whose ownership is more of a philosophical debate than a settled matter (depending on the decade) and gave it a flame maple top, white binding, and a Crimson Red Transparent finish that actually earns the word "transparent." Built in Japan in 2019 as part of the Aerodyne Classic run, it's the kind of guitar that looks (and plays) more expensive than it is, which is not the worst problem for a guitar to have.

The Aerodyne name goes back to 2003, when Fender Japan built a slimmer, carved-body Jazz Bass and liked the results enough to turn it into a whole design language. A Telecaster and Stratocaster version followed in 2004, and the pitch was simple: keep the vintage-spec guts — correct radius, vintage-style tuners and bridge — but give the body a bound, sculpted top that looked like nothing else on the wall.

Fender never ran it as one continuous series; it showed up in waves of limited runs over the years, which is part of why a clean one still feels like you found something instead of just buying something.
