Personal Thoughts:
This is an exceptionally classy take on the Explorer and one of the most striking Custom Shop versions of the model. The Ebony Gloss finish, bound body, ebony fingerboard and gold hardware give it a much more luxurious appearance than a standard Explorer, while the split-diamond headstock inlay and block markers bring in all the traditional Les Paul Custom-style appointments.
Underneath the formal cosmetics, it still has all the aggression and presence you would want from an Explorer. The large mahogany body and set mahogany neck give it a strong, resonant feel with plenty of sustain, while the dual-humbucker layout and simple control arrangement keep things direct and performance-focused.
It is a great combination of classic Gibson Custom aesthetics and one of the company’s most iconic body shapes. Much rarer and visually more distinctive than a conventional Explorer, and a particularly strong choice for someone wanting something high-end without moving away from the traditional Gibson formula.
