Ampex - 601/602 - Electric and Company 601 1960s - Brown

This is a very fun and rare stereo tube preamp! Electric and Company was selling these units completely refurbished to make this awesome Vintage preamp a reliable piece of gear for modern recording. Take a look at their website for all the specifics on how they refurbish each unit. (I copied pasted below as well)

The stereo pair also has phantom power, a DB reduction for drums and other loud sources, and a working VU meter that has a kill switch for when you really want to crank the gain and get that perfect tube fuzz, and not hurt the VU meter itself. Feel free to reach out with any questions.

This item comes with a mid century style wood case that I built. I have made about 30-40 of these cases for various Ampex preamp owners. All out of wood that has been reclaimed from a few Nashville houses that had been destroyed by a tornado in 2020. Vintage Ampex handle from an old Ampex projector case.

I can modify shipping rates for buyers closer to Nashville TN.

We have rebuilt and modified more Ampex 600 series units than anyone. Really. We completely dismantle the units and rebuild them from the ground up into the tone monsters they were born to be. Cinemag input transformers, Edcor output transformers, new JJ EF86 and 12AU7 tubes, ceramic tube sockets, 1% precision film resistors, polypropylene film capacitors, and a host of studio features make these units sing. If you are looking for an Ampex 600 series, then these are the droids you are looking for. Contact Usfor availability and/or details on sending in a unit for the service.
