The Details

The Korg Nautilus 61 AT Grey is a serious music workstation for players, producers and sound designers who want an enormous sonic palette in one instrument. Made in Japan, this distinctive Grey Edition couples the streamlined Nautilus design with a responsive 61-note semi-weighted keyboard featuring both velocity sensitivity and aftertouch.

At its heart are nine separate synthesis engines. These include SGX-2 premium acoustic piano, EP-1 electric piano, CX-3 tonewheel organ, HD-1 PCM synthesis, AL-1 analogue modelling, MS-20EX, PolysixEX, STR-1 physical modelling and the remarkably deep MOD-7 VPM/FM engine. It is less a single synthesizer than a small civilisation of them sharing the same control panel.

The AT version adds aftertouch to the Nautilus formula, allowing extra expression by applying pressure after a note has been played. Korg also provides specially tuned sounds that make use of this facility, while the Dynamics control offers another immediate way to alter the instrument's response.

For complete production work, Nautilus provides sampling, audio and MIDI sequencing, arpeggiation, drum and step-sequencing facilities, plus a substantial collection of onboard effects. Set Lists and Smooth Sound Transitions also make it a thoroughly capable live instrument.
