Zildjian Avedis Trans Stamp Hi Hats 1950's - thin - 596/715 g

Zildjian 14" trans stamp type 3 hi hats early 1950's at a thin 596/715 gm. Clean 7/16" bell holes and edges. No cracks, dents, dings, or flea bites. They sit pretty flat too (see 2nd to last photo showing the largest differences on each). The only edge flaws are several micro-ticks on each one, barely visible and felt by finger tip, basically negligible. I can find one small edge depression on the bottom cymbal, again pretty minor. An overall very clean pair with no real issues. This a pair I matched up since they had similar widths. I've found trans stamp 14 singles routinely vary from 13-3/4 to 14-3/8". So getting a close dimensional match can take months of looking. Note too that a 14" trans stamp will often vary from from 1/16" to 1/8" on the same cymbal. They weren't usually made "round."

The 596 measures 13-7/8" while the 715 is 14". A 1/8" difference is negligible with hi hats, esp if you play the bottom one angled like most do. Last photo showing the overhead view of the 596 over 715.

Both are brilliant cymbals but the heavy patina on the top/596 gm hides much of that. The bottom cymbal is very brilliant overall, esp. on the reverse. Both show typical stains, toning blotches, faint scratches and faint hairlines from use....like nearly all early hats do.

Last photo shows the pair overlapping from above. Once on the stand with any angle applied to the bottom hat, you will always have 1/4" to 1/2" of actual playing difference between them, even if they are the identical diameters.

A very nice sounding pair regardless of which is on top....though I prefer the lighter one on top for more of a deep toned, sloshy/washy big band sound. They play more sizzly and bright with the heavier one on top. The heaver cymbal has a much more brilliant finish so is more cutting/higher pitched than the lighter one. Both are excellent as standalone crash cymbals too. Perfect for old jazz, blues, even early classic rock/pop. For thins they are heavy enough to give a pronounced foot "chup" regardless of which is on top. No need to spend $450-$600 on a pair of these.
