1969 Ampeg Dan Armstrong “See-Through” Lucite bass. Original with POTs dating to 1969. This is an early version of the Dan Armstrong designed bass.
Dan Armstrong was a New York guitarist, repairman, designer and instrument builder. In 1968, Ampeg hired him initially to work on its guitar line. Armstrong instead developed an entirely new solid-body concept using a clear acrylic/Lucite body.
The model was introduced at the June 1969 NAMM show and was one of the most unusual American basses of its era. Ampeg produced the original Dan Armstrong instruments through roughly 1971.
