1970 Gibson SG Standard Walnut – T-Top / Super Distortion
Up for sale is a 1970 Gibson SG Standard in Walnut, serial number 901454.
This is a well-played and heavily modified vintage SG with a great look and plenty of character. It is being sold as a player's vintage Gibson rather than an all-original collector's example.
The guitar currently has a Gibson T-Top humbucker in the neck position and a vintage DiMarzio Super Distortion in the bridge. The wiring harness has been replaced, and an additional mini-toggle switch has been added. The tuners also appear to have been replaced.
The bridge/tailpiece setup has been altered at some point as well. The guitar currently has a wide-travel/"harmonica"-style bridge and stop tailpiece, and there are two plugged mounting holes visible on the face of the body from previous hardware. Please see the detailed photos.
Cosmetically, this guitar shows plenty of honest wear from more than five decades of use, including scratches, scuffs, dings, finish wear and aging throughout. There is visible wear on the back of the neck as well as oxidation and aging to the hardware. The pickguard and plastics also show appropriate wear.
Despite the changes, this is still a genuine early-'70s Gibson SG with a killer pickup combination and the unmistakable feel and appearance of a guitar that has actually been played.
