This is such a sweet guitar.
Pre-Norlin ES175 that is light as a feather. Mostly original. Original pickups, electronics, frets, tuners.... really, as far as I can tell, pretty much everything except the exact replacement tailpiece which has been added because the original had a stress fracture ( !!! - I will include the original TP with sale....).
Ok the following is a listing of the "issues" I have found in no particular order.........
This came to me as a "fretless wonder", For the uninitiated, this means the original frets had very little crown and were filed flat to be easy (ie fast) to navigate. This practice was not unusual for this era at Gibson. I leveled and crowned them as much as possible. Plays very fast as you'd expect with no hand drag / hang-up.
There are some light cross grain scratches on the BRAZILIAN rosewood fingerboard evident from previous work.
The truss rod works very well. It needed some washers to extend its range after almost 60 years of service which is not at all unusual with Gibsons. New truss rod nut.
There is the slightest nearly imperceptible neck torque. When the treble side of the neck is adjusted dead straight, the bass side by the low E string has almost negligible relief of about .005"-.006". In practical terms that's about half the width of a .012" high E string or .006", which is to say not a playability issue at all.
The D string tuner is slightly bent but functions 100%
The finish is still very glossy and looks fantastic although close inspection will reveal some obligatory Gibson craze lines / weather checks in the finish; not at all bothersome and very typical. Actually they are sort of endearing....
Pickups are wonderful and sound just as good as you'd expect. The sound is, well....think Joe Pass. The covers are still pretty derned shiny too.
The treble tone pot has a light "catch-point" that you can feel very slightly midway thru when turning it but the operative word here is slight, not a functional issue at all as the tone pot works fine. It does it's job well and I mention it only to mention it.
The electronics function fine and are ready to gig.
Tight neck joint, with a great neck angle.
Nut is typical mid to late 1960s 1-9/16" and I believe the nut is original "Delron".
As mentioned, Brazilian rosewood finger board and bridge.
Cosmetically I'd call this guitar excellent considering it is 60 years old......
With non original hardshell case in very good condition.
More info added as I can think of it..........
ALSO: I'm fielding reasonable offers FY'alls Information.....
Photo #2 is probably most accurate color-wise and probably most reflective of the actual color in person....
